Chris was asked if he could take the bees out from the cavity behind the tiles on the first floor of this Lodge House in Yalding as the window frames had to be painted and the workman said no until they had gone.
Not much activity today but I think it’s a big colony and been there sometime.
Scaffolding Tower up and the Builder has removed the tiles. Then it’s the Beekeepers turn to do his bit. Comb all across the building. Think they have been there at least 5 years. Not just arrived as according to the householder.
Comb in every section behind the tile batons in each cavity, lots of brood and she is still laying eggs.
Fresh comb being made the nest is expanding.
Expanding downwards and sideways plenty of empty Cavities still available.
Removing comb bit by bit bees are not angry or stinging. Just covering the brood to keep it warm and safe.
Now the removal
Plenty of containers
Comb and bees removed
Used my BeeVac to suck them into my box onto frames and wax.
3boxes of comb cavity now empty
Cavity empty but being cleaned by workers from nearby hives
A dead wasps nest from last year Bees robbing out and cleaning up where the comb was cut out.
Now it’s for the builders job to put insulation in the cavities and to put the tiles back.
